Every day I am sent a "Quote of the Day" from the Foundation for a Better Life. Here's todays:
“If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain. If I can ease one life the aching, Or cool one pain, Or help one fainting robin Unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain.”
—Emily Dickinson (1830-1886), poet
It's a pretty dramatic way of saying: Life is good when you help.
When you set something in motion (create a topple) you are trying to accomplish something as defined by the core purpose. Often these purposes are to help someone or something (like the environment).
But think for a moment about not starting a topple, but being caught up in one... It usually takes the form of someone asking for help (either directly or indirectly).
I think it's great if you want to help a "robin Unto his nest." And of course if you do so, that sets in motion a chain of events (like not being eaten by the cat).
However saving small birds is just part of being a toppler. The core issue is that when a domino falls, what really happened is that the domino helped the previous domino keep the chain in motion. Either ask for help, or recognize when you are being asked for help if you want small actions to lead to big things.
