Why So Quiet?

Yes, it's been quite around here lately.  The reason: setting up a big topple takes a lot of time!

I'm pleased to announce that over the next 90 days I'll be working with my new friend Adam Brucker to kick things up a notch.  What exactly does that mean?

  • A new company called "Toplers" will be conceived, and if things look good after the pre-launch phase, Toplers will join a rapidly growing industry dubbed "social  business."
  • A grand experiment will be conducted where we try to get 100 people around the country to buy dinner for a stranger on one specific night.  More to follow...
  • The Toplers website will be upgraded and more users will be given access.  Watch this space for announcements.
  • There will be more frequent blogging about the core concepts driving Domino Theory and the musings of building a consumer products business to spread the notion that everyone can "Set Big Things In Motion."

The point of all of this is to determine if Domino Theory is a fun hobby, or possibly the beginning of something more substantial.  You can help decide the outcome by supporting our efforts one way or another.

Domino Award: Submissions are In!

This week was the deadline for students to submit essays for the 2008 Domino Award (topple #0000003).  I want to thank everyone who helped spread the word about this exciting program, especially my partner in crime at CU Professor Clayton Lewis.

Next week we will start pulling together the plans for the awards banquet to be held on 4/14 (new date).

It will be very exciting to watch how the winning students turn into "dominoes" and go one to set big things in motion.

I have some cool ideas planned for the awards dinner (more posts on that later).  And, don't forget that we are very fortunate to have Bill Coleman joining us as our key note speaker.

Just over a year ago I made it a goal of mine to get this program rolling again.  I'm very excited to be seeing it all come together, and to know that this year is just one of many more to come.

Getting a Kidney at Starbucks

I realize this isn't exactly about Domino Theory, but since I made the "Is Your Kidney A Domino" post I have come across a number of inspiring stories on the topic.

04barrista_190 This story in the NY Times is about a woman who works a Starbucks and decided to give her kidney to a long-time customer.

Maybe there is a Domino Theory angle here: If I keep the topic alive, maybe someone who reads this blog will do something, that leads to something, that eventually ends up inspiring someone to donate a kidney.  Or, maybe the kidney topic on my blog with grow into something even bigger.  Who knows, I'm just tipping dominoes...
